Enhancing the wellbeing of our communities
Every individual deserves access to medical prevention and intervention services regardless of their race or ability to pay.
Social justice is evolving to illuminate the various facets of inequality in America and the world. Healthcare and health access are critical variables that must be addressed to fully right the wrongs of social injustice. The sudden onset of the Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated the health equality crisis in America, creating wider gaps and disparities in care for minority populations and underserved communities. Hitting these groups the hardest, the pandemic has highlighted the underlying issues that have plagued the healthcare landscape for decades. Not all care is delivered equally.
The challenge of accessing and receiving quality medical care has historically been determined by social conditions, including funding resources, system failures, racism, and emotional contributors like a lack of trust among patients. It is a devastating cycle in which marginalized and minoritized patients have the poorest health outcomes as a product of their circumstances.
With the failure of our current healthcare system to provide for the needs of the underserved and overlooked, it is imperative that the industry reconsider its focus and tackle the core issue: social determinants of health.
